Richie as well as Matt Southgate joined THGC as a cadet in May 1991 where his successful club career earned him the honour of Captaining the Essex Under 21’s team in 1998, becoming Essex Golfer of the Year in 1999. He is the current course record holder having knocked 5 shots of the existing record with a round of 62 in 2001.

2001 was a good year for Richie. He won the prestigious Lytham Trophy and The Irish Open Stroke Play Championship. These victories earned him a place in the successful 2001 Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup Team which defeated the USA team at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia by a score 15-9. This victory enabled the GB and Ireland to retain the Walker Cup for the first time in the events history. The GB and Ireland team included Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell, Nick Dougherty and Marc Warren who like Richie turned pro at the end of 2001. Winning two PGA EuroPro Tour events in 2002, Richie gained a European Tour card at the 2003 Qualifying School where he was also a medallist.

Richie has been a consistent performer on the European Tour over the last 17 years entering 285 competitions without ever winning a tour event. That is until July 2018 when he led for the last two rounds to win the Porsche Open by one shot with a birdie on the last hole finishing at 11 under par. The previous week he also won the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge finishing at 18 under par. No professional has ever had back to back wins from Challenge Tour to European Tour.
