Cadet Section

Thorpe Hall is very proud of its Cadet section. Our two current Tour Professionals Richard McEvoy and Matthew Southgate, have both progressed through the Cadet ranks at the club, proving that the challenge of our course is good grounding for any aspiring golfer. Over the past five years, the playing standard of the Cadets has improved immensely and the section has flourished. The improvement in playing standards have led to Thorpe Hall achieving success at County level for each of the past four years, winning the Ladies Hitchcock Trophy in 2015, the Handicap Youth Shield in 2016, and the Faldo Wedge in 2017 and 2018. Following the Clubs success in the Faldo Wedge, Thorpe Hall went on to represent Essex for two consecutive years in the National Club Team Finals at Woodhall Spa and Frilford Heath. 2018 also saw one of our up and coming juniors secure the Girls Essex Schools championship.

During the summer months, on Thursday evenings, our Professional staff, organise coaching nights for Cadets to attend, followed by dinner. The Cadet Section is divided into two categories for Cadets with and without handicaps:

· Cadet U/11 – Children under the age of 11 learn the basics and play in fun 9 hole competitions until they reach a suitable standard. Through professional tuition they will eventually acquire an official handicap that enables their next stage of development into the Cadet Section.

· Full Cadets – Cadets are encouraged to play social golf with their fellow Cadets to create friendships during regular meetings. After obtaining a WHS handicap, Cadets are permitted restricted unsupervised access to the course and throughout the year, regular meetings are arranged to provide competition offering opportunities for handicaps to be adjusted. Cadets whose handicaps are 12 or below are encouraged to join in all Adult competitions, and may represent the Club in County team events if selected.

The Club is very interested in hearing from all categories of Cadet players from starters to the very accomplished. The Club Office will arrange for the Junior Organiser to welcome you to the Club and explain our arrangements for Cadets more fully.
