Club Captain Stewart Hayden

A golf course is just a piece of cultivated grass with holes in it. A golf club is not only measured by its course, but also by its members and the warm welcoming environment they produce.

I am honoured to be the 2019 Captain of Thorpe Hall Golf Club, where one of the best courses in Essex is played on by the best members in Essex!

Thorpe Hall has great golfers in its DNA, dating back to Sir Michael Bonallack, former Secretary of the R&A, to today where we have two European Tour players, Richard McEvoy and Matt Southgate.

Members range from single figure golfers to those new to golf and are just starting to learn about the joys and frustrations that come with the game. We have a thriving Ladies section and a growing Cadets section.

I have been a member for 20 years, representing the club in various team games and serving on the committee. I hope to see you in the clubhouse soon to share tales of birdies and bogeys over a calming drink or two.

Lady Captain Jan Soilleux

My husband Peter was already a member of Thorpe Hall and always commented on how friendly the club is. I like friendly so I joined in the summer of 2007, the Centenary year.

Since then, I have made some lasting friendships at a prestigious club, well known for its superbly maintained course.

I shall look forward to my Captaincy knowing I have a wealth of reliable support.

Cadet Captain Millie Penfold

When I was 5 years old, I was bought a set of plastic golf clubs. My first swing with them has made me love the game ever since! I have always been at this club and it is the most supportive and friendly club I have ever seen! As Cadet Captain, I will support the cadet section as much as I can alongside the committee.

I have achieved a lot over the past year: Being selected for the U18 East Region Girls England Squad, representing Essex in County week, in a single figure handicap, to winning the Essex schools championships. Hopefully there are many more things to add to that list as the years continue!

I am looking forward to my Captaincy and many great things to come in 2019!
