On Saturday a number of mixed teams competed for the trophy, including Debbie Cavin & Ray Waterman and Eileen Waterman & Simon Mellish (pictured). Spouses and partners are not allowed to play as a team.

The competition has been played for a number of years after the 1978 club captain (Trevor Williams) decided the club needed a fun mixed event.

Shan Mather tells me that after noticing a particularly attractive hydrangea bush he decided that it should be called the Rhododendrons Mixed. Despite gardener members pointing out his mistake it was too late the decision had been made. It has been played annually ever since.

This years victors were Sue Quinlan & Derek Palmer who scored 43 points narrowly beating Chris Richards & Graham Eastern who had 42.
