Diary Event

Bank Holiday Sunday was the day that Thorpe Hall gathered to welcome and congratulate one of its favourite sons on his historic accomplishments over the last few weeks. Richie is the only player to win a Challenge Tour event and then a European Tour event in succession.
Nearly two hundred of his fellow members clapped and applauded as his friend and club professional John Fryatt related stories from when he first met Richie, who joined the club as a junior member some twenty five years ago and still supports it in so many ways.
One of them concerned Richie and his son Ollie, for sitting on the table with the European Open and the Vaudreuil Golf Challenge trophy’s was the Howe Cup, an adult and junior members four ball, played for annually at the club.
John drew every ones attention to R McEvoy’s name as the winner in 1999 and then he pointed out the winner in 2017, eight year old O McEvoy. To loud cheers he presented father and son to the crowd.
Richie responded thanking all the members who had supported and encouraged him for so many years and then to his wife and family, who he has to be away from much of the time, playing in events across the globe.
He said that having gained his full tour card for the next two years he was working to push on and consolidate his position in a profession he loves, despite the roller coaster ride that it is.
His fellow tour player and another product of Thorpe Hall Juniors, Matt Southgate, was there to lend his support to Richie’s big day. Both of them are off this week to play in the European Tour event, the Made in Denmark at Silkeborg Ry Golf.
